I installed aluminum gutter guard screens on my sister’s house over last weekend. This was my first time doing this and I learned a few things I wanted to share.
The version we used was a metal aluminum variety that looked like the image on the right. The instructions that came with the packaging just said to place the guard under the shingles on one end and then into the top edge of the gutter on the other. That was it. There are a couple more installing tips that is good to know before starting.
Here are my tips for what I learned while I was installing it.
Tip 1
The material installed easier and with less lumpiness when I put the outside of the roll down in the gutter. I first thought it would be better to have the slight bulge upwards, but it was difficult to keep the outer edge of the guard material into the top edge of the gutter. So, unroll it and keep the outside of the roll down.
Tip 2
Set the edge of material into the gutter first along the whole way before putting the other edge under the shingles. I was able to unroll the whole 20 foot roll, the whole time edging it into gutter. Then I would go back to the beginning and shove the other end of the gutter guarding under the shingles.
That’s about it. Just wanted to offer up those two tips since it took me a bit of trial and error to figure it out.
